Tennis News
The Australian Open is in the books, and what a show it was.
The women finished first with Elena Rybakina defeating world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4
-
There were 184 points played in this match, and each player won 92 of them. The same number of points won by each player – see in the Coaches Corner below what Rybakina credits for her win.
-
We had 4 US women in the quarterfinals, including 18 year old Iva Jovic. Joining her were 21 year old Coco Gauff, Anna Anisomova and Jessica Pegula
-
Jessica Pegula made it to the semifinal round, losing to ultimate champion Elena Rybakina
The historic men’s final featured GOAT Novak Djokovic against the Spanish half of the men’s current Duopoly, Carlos Alcaraz.
-
Djokovic was going for a record 25th Grand Slam title, and Alcaraz was going for a career Grand Slam (titles at all 4 of the Grand Slam tournaments).
-
Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man ever to achieve a career Grand Slam at the age of 22, ousting the great Don Budge who was also 22 when he accomplished it.
-
Number 1 in the world Alcaraz defeated Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5.
Our rankings list focus on the Top 5 and the top 5 U.S, players on each tour.
As usual, there are significant shifts in the rankings after the Grand Slam.

”I have always considered tennis as a combat in an arena between two gladiators who have their racquets and their courage as their weapons.”

Coach’s Corner
Whether you just stepped onto a busy street or you’re playing tennis, the question is the same.
What’s Next?
Your focus always needs to be the Next Ball.
Not your last shot, the Next Ball.
If the Next Ball is coming you are all about the ball, the Next Ball and nothing else.
It’s not about the last point, nor about winning the game, it’s about the Next point. Just the Next point.
It’s not about the last game, nor about winning the set, it’s about the Next game. Just the Next game.
It’s not about the match you played yesterday, nor about winning the league, it’s about the Next match. Just the Next match.
If your pulling out into a busy street, it’s the Next car, or it may be game over, insurance nightmare on.
Elena Rybakina said: “It was tough to come back in the third. I’m happy that being down, I was able to calm myself down, not being frustrated anymore, and just focus on each point and stay close. I’m super happy.”
Remember about the Next Ball – it’s the ball that enables you to play your best, in life.
