News:

Good news! US Tennis is back strong with two of our women in the world’s top 5, and five players in the top 20.
Coco Gauff moved up to number 2 in the world last week, and Jessica Pegula is coming back from injury at number 5. Two more US women are also knocking on the top 10 door: Danielle Collins and Madison Keys at numbers 11 and 12, respectively.  We round out the top 20 with Emma Navarro at number 18.
Five US women are in the top 20 players in the world.
Say goodbye to the clay and hello to the grass! Wimbledon is quickly approaching and grass-court tennis is right around the corner. But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s look back at the last few weeks on the illustrious red clay.

The French Open recently concluded, and it was one to remember. Both the men and the women gave the fans a spectacle of marathon matches, outrageous upsets, and out-of-this-world shot-making.
Iga Swiatek took home the title for the third time in a row and has now won four French Open titles in the past five years. She faced match point versus Naomi Osaka in the 2nd round but, after getting by, was in absolute cruise control throughout the entire tournament. Iga looked simply unbeatable and was making the top 10 players look like amateurs every time she stepped out on the court. She’s the clear-cut favorite to win no matter what tournament she’s competing in and no matter who she’s facing. Swiatek has gained a reputation over the last few years as a lethal ball striker and an unparalleled mover, and as of 2024, there’s no doubt that she has the potential to become one of the greatest women of all time.

Throughout her run at the 2024 French Open, Swiatek defeated former winner Naomi Osaka along with three current top-10 players. But the craziest part was that she only lost 1 set in the entire tournament and also beat top 30 player Anastasia Potavova 6-0, 6-0 en route to the victory. Her idol, Rafael Nadal, holds the record with 14 French Open titles, but there’s speculation now that Iga might make a run for that crown as she shows no signs of slowing down. As long as her body is healthy, it just might be doable. She should without a doubt be at the top of anyone’s list for players to watch for Wimbledon and the rest of the year.
Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Jannik Sinner topped the list of most likely to secure the French Open men’s title this year but none were successful. The familiar and seemingly consistent smile of Carlos Alcaraz has won the hearts of tennis fans worldwide. In 2022 he became one of the world’s youngest ever world number 1’s and now, a few years later, was number 3 in the world and competing for his first French Open title.
His path to the final wasn’t as smooth as Swiatek’s, but he triumphed nonetheless. Taking out top-ranked American Sebastian Korda and top-ranked Canadian Felix Auger-Alliasime, he found his way into the quarterfinal facing Greek phenom and forming French Open runners-up Stefanos Tsitsipas. With anticipation building, Alcaraz shut down any hesitation about the match, absolutely dispatching Tsitsipas 6-3,7-6,6-4 solidifying him into the semifinals where he faced his rival and friend, Jannik Sinner.

The new world number 1, Sinner, has been the best player on tour over the last year and is getting more comfortable and unbeatable on Clay as time ticks. The two men did nothing less than battle for over 4 hours and in the end, Alcaraz came out on top 2-6,6-3,3-6,6-4,6-3 in one of the tournament’s best matches. Fans and pros alike are speculating that these two young prodigies will be the face of tennis as if they already are not. They have made the game a pleasure to watch and will continue doing great things for the sport.
But, moving on to the final, Alcaraz faced Alexander Zverev. The tall German has looked in form, winning a clay court title just two weeks prior and also completely dismantling Alcaraz the last time they played. Yet again, the match went to a fifth set and both men were fighting tooth and nail to the very end. Both competing in their first-ever French Open final, Alcaraz pulled through late in the fifth set and captured his 3rd Grand Slam and first French Open with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 5-7,6-1,6-2. With the win, the 21-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest man in history to win a Major on all three surfaces, surpassing Nadal at age 22.

People speculate that Alcaraz is better than Nadal or Federer when they were that young and can’t wait for the future because he’ll just continue to get better! Looking forward, Alcaraz now has one job: to defend his Wimbledon title.
Tennis is in great hands with Swiatek on pace to set records and Alcaraz and Sinner both topping the worldwide rankings at such a young age. As fans, we have so much to look forward to, and the future couldn’t be brighter.
